I posted two articles today about free image editing apps and services and then I just got an email from one of them. Aviary, a great, free online image tool, is now available in Facebook. I use Aviary's image editing tool and screen capture browser extension on a daily basis.

Aviary has announced that their simple photo editor is now available as a Facebook app. It features photo effects, stickers, auto enhancers, tools for brightness, saturation, contrast, red-eye, whiten, blemish, and more.

This means that you can edit and enhance your photos right in Facebook.

This is a great tool for schools that use Facebook, whether for communication or for class projects.

Aviary is one of my favorite web apps. I use the Aviary extension in Google Chrome to take and edit screen shots and I use some of their other tools to edit and modify graphics.

Aviary Education is currently in Beta and is offering free accounts for educators. The site allows educators to create private student accounts, manage assignments, and use the image editor, vector editor, audio editor, and music creator with their students. The content is promised to be 100% school safe.

This is a great tool for all educators to use, especially graphics, art, and music.

GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is a free, downloadable, image editing program. GIMP is always been highly rated by various tech magazines and I use it at school and at home as an alternative to other software.

It is free, easy to use and easy to install. There is also a huge support community for it and the software is updated and improved often.

This is a great alternative to paid apps like Photoshop.While not as powerful or as useful for professional photographers, it is very powerful and it is more than adequate for teachers and students. Students and teachers can use this to modify pictures for class projects and much more. It supports layers, as well as a variety of editing and modification functions.
