Mary Shelley's Frankenstein - book and original movie available for free

Open Culture is a great resource for lots of things. They have incredible listings of free ebooks, audio books, and videos available, which is great for education.

They just announced that they have the original file adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein available for download. It's only 12 minutes and was  made in 1910. They also have the link to download the original Frankenstein book.

Check it out with your students.






Google Books now available offline

Google Books

Google Books, Google's service that has thousands of books available, has added offline viewing capability to the desktop app when you use Chrome. This feature has been available or the Android and iPhone apps for a while.

This would be great for schools who want to use Google Books instead of buying paper books. Many of the classics are available here.

You must use the web app to access the books offline.


ReadPrint - Free online books for students, teachers, and readers

ReadPrint is a site that has thousands of free online books to read. You can search the entire collection, or search categories such as essays, fiction, non-fiction, plays, and more.

The site has many of the classics, inclduding "The Ugly Duckling", "Jane Eyre", "Pride and Prejudice", and "The Canterbury Tales."

This is a great resource for educators and students to save money by reading the books online for free.


All PDF books from National Academies Press are now FREE

The National Academies Press

The National Academies Press is the publishing arm of the National Academies and publishes reports from the National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, the Institute of Medicine and the National Research Council. There are over 200 books per year published a topics ranging from science to engineering and health and even Education.

There is currently over 4000 titles available in PDF format and they can now all be downloaded for free, either by chapter or by entire book.

There are some great reports and books on science, education, computers, earth science, health and medicine, security, environmental, and much more.

You do have to create a free account if you are going to do lots of downloading, but you can continue as a guest also.

This is a great resource for teachers and students looking for research and reports on different topics.
